Apple made a number of very bold statements at yesterday’s WWDC and Safari 4 being the “world’s fastest browser” is certainly one of them. According to the Hardware 2.0 blog when put against Google’s chrome browser it comes in last (okay matched against two browsers).

Rumour has it the tests were run on a platform that only accounts for 5% market share, I wonder what that is???

Many of you by now are witnessing a recent flurry of Apple news working its way around the blogosphere.

Noticeable points that “iPickedupon” – sorry pardon the pun!

  • iPhone 3G 16gb is discontinued and is replaced by more £40 more expensive 3G S version – did Apple miss the current global economic downturn?!?
  • iPhone 3G S 32gb is launched at £538 – plot goes AWOL at this point!
  • Internet tethering is launched – yay! (3gb = £15 for 30 days or 10gb = £29) – no more yay applies…oh and no tethering for payg (it’s Jailbreak time again!)
  • Apple tries to slam Windows 7, you can have a go at Vista, but not 7 – no way jose!
  • TomTom is launched for iPhone, no complaints there – yay!

I know this is a Microsoft orientated blog, however I use Apple products (and I like them too!) but Apple’s iPhone 3.0 is looking more like Microsoft’s Vista if you ask me.

P.S. The silhouette picture above was on TomTom’s homepage, with the strap line “coming soon” whilst WWDC announcements were made about the June release of TomTom for iPhone (the first turn-by-turn GPS application to be made available on the device).

VMware in early May alleged that there was a fault under the hood of Hyper-V,  since this statement they have not been playing nice with Microsoft.

The Microsoft Virtualisation Team is desperate to address any issues with Hyper-V by means of hotfix etc. but VMware have still not answered pleas from Jeff Woolsey (Principal Program Manager for Hyper-V).

At this point in time we all have to ask ourselves, is there really an issue at all?

  • Round 1: iPhone 2G (3G) vs BlackBerry Storm
  • Round 2: iPhone 3G (3.0) vs Palm Pre

So tomorrow kicks off yet another battle of the smartphones where Apple announces it’s latest goodies at WWDC at Moscone West in San Francisco, just days after Palm re-invents itself for the third (and probably final time) with the Pre. I have always been of the opinion “horses for courses”, for me what works in the enterprise does not fit the bill at home (this is not just a technology issue, but convenience too – do I really want my work number/e-mail whilst I am running after my kids on the weekend?)

For those interested coverage starts here on Engadget at:

07:00AM – Hawaii
10:00AM – Pacific
11:00AM – Mountain
12:00PM – Central
01:00PM – Eastern
06:00PM – London
07:00PM – Paris
02:00AM – Tokyo (June 9th)

Personally I am looking forward to taking delivery of my Asus 1000HE and putting Windows 7 on it!

Channel 10 regularly blogs on useful productivity tools, but “Sender’s Time Zone” is a must have! I regularly receive e-mail from people in other time zones and quite often lose track of the time difference, this free plug-in displays the sender’s time in a neat bar across the top of the message pane.
