CX300 give away!

December 3rd, 2010 | Tags: , , ,

Off the back of my participation at Tech-Ed 2010 a very kind Microsoft employee named “Albert”, donated one of the CX300 devices used to demonstrate Lync at the product stand. I could of course hold on to this fantastic device – the CX300 is a personal favourite of mine, but instead I thought how about giving it away to you guys?

Entry rules are as follows:

Submit one favourite new piece of functionality within Lync 2010 in the comments section below and on January 1st 2011 I will pick my favourite. I also ask that where the winner’s residence is outside of the UK he/she picks up the postage fees – sorry!

The prize in question can be seen below and I’ll even throw in my high quality Tech-Ed 2010 bag – lucky you eh? *sarcasm*

P.S. Don’t forget to include your e-mail address so I can contact you, should you win.

I love the way media reconnects if the network drops.
I can be in a conf call and yank the ethernet cable out – plug it back in and bingo the call just reconnects!

There’s too many cool features to just pick one!

Survivable Branch… if that’s unacceptable, I love the look of the Lync client. 🙂

First I like and what you are doing 🙂
but i am confused do you want a server side functionality or a client side one ?

for me if From a Server perspective my favourite functionality would be the mediation server collocation.

From a client side the ability to share a program instead of sharing the desktop 🙂

    thank you

I love the ability to seamlesly switch from the PC call to mobile – like if you need to go for smoke or toilet during the call 🙂

I love the call survivability feature and I use it in Demo to impress people, you make a PSTN call to Mobile from your laptop Lync client and then you simply unplug the network cable.
Everyone would think that the call has dropped , but once you plug the cable back you realize that the PSTN call is still active and the other person is still talking 🙂

The best feature is that is became so simple and lightweight that even i was able to install it on 1 virtual machine with all roles except Archive. I haven’t installed OCS 2007 R2 before that, i just witnessed how complicated it can be, and how may VM’s it can eat.

I was able to configure enteprise voice integrated with asterisk 1.8 (based on tutorial on this site — i think), 3 response groups (for now)…and i keep finding great use scenarios every day.

Thank you Microsoft! (& all the blogs & forums)

I love the fact that there is now a Primary and Secondary Registrar.
When used with SBA’s it makes having a centralized server model so much more viable.
And the Live Meeting client is no longer required (unless you have more that 200 people in a meeting)

There’s a couple things that have really impressed me with regards to lync.

But to choose a favorite, it’d have to be the ability to completely get rid of our aging PBX system that costs us more in service calls than it does licensing!

We’ve recently setup an account with Broadvox, and will begin the migration of our services to a pure IP based UC platform next quarter. With a single point of management for all Unified Communications, it will remove a huge burden that I feel most Admins would rather not shoulder!

    Thanks!

I like the ability to force Lync Client to use ABWQ (Address Book Web Query) instead of standard ABS. In small but dynamic deployments this is very usefull. Also for provider hosted enviroments you usually need to allow search for new customers’ users as soon as possible.
