On Wednesday May 19th, the Unified Communications Interoperability Forum (UCIF) is announcing its formation. UCIF is a non-profit, open alliance of worldwide technology companies that will develop interoperability profiles, certification, and testing programs in order to enable UC interoperability scenarios. Founding members include Acme Packet, Aspect, AudioCodes, Broadcom, BroadSoft, Brocade, ClearOne, Jabra, Plantronics, RADVISION, Siemens Enterprise Communications, and Teliris Founders: HP, Juniper Networks, Microsoft, Logitech / LifeSize, and Polycom.

The UCIF’s vision is to enable interoperability of UC hardware and software across enterprises, service providers, and consumer clouds, as a means of protecting customer’s existing investments, simplifying their transition to more extended UC networks, and generating incremental business opportunity for all stakeholders in the ecosystem.  This forum’s contributions will be vital to the successful implementation of UC solutions by our customers. It will certify interoperability scenarios like video integration between rooms systems and desktop solutions.

Not only will UCIF improve the communications experience for our customers, but it will also underscore Microsoft’s commitment to interoperability. The success of this forum is absolutely critical to our competing in this space.
